Due to Covid-19 travel restrictions and logistical challenges, the 2021 North American Irish Dance Championships (commonly referred to as "Nationals") was divided into two events - The United States National Championships, and The Canadian National Championships.  These events relaxed the typical qualification/entry policies, were both world qualifying events for the 2022 World Championships, were confined to residents of the regions of each nation, and took place in Phoenix, Arizona and Calgary, Alberta respectively.

It is unknown if either country will continue this event, since the 2022 North American Irish Dance Championships is being planned for global participation, and the annual calendar of events is already quite full.  It is also unknown if said events will have world qualification status, residency restrictions, qualification policies, or potential dates or locations.

Should a 2022 Canadian National Championships occur, it will be hosted by Eastern Canada, and will be in the fourth quarter of the calendar year.
